Convoy Guideline

CONVOY GUIDELINES :

A car convoy is made up of eight ('8) parts:

* Zero
* Control
* Hot Cars
* Team Leader
* Member's Car
* Back Marker
* Sweeper
* Last Car

Zero
1. From RV Point towards Destination, ZERO never stops.
2. Produce team listing, arrangement and map beforehand.
3. To give briefing on road safety and convoy before departing.
4. Zero need to control Team Leader as Team leader control the convoy team
5. Always communicate with Control, Team Leader and Last Car.
6. Zero must adjust speed at all times, remembering that the rear of the convoy may be a long way back. Denote pace of convoy before hand.
7. Constantly view mirrors to ensure the convoy is not spacing out too far and always check with Last car
'8. If a lot of traffic lights are encountered, it may be necessary to pull over somewhere safely to reform.
4. A generous use of indicators when changing direction.
5. Inform the group prior to departure of the destination and any stops (perhaps a map & detail).

Control
1. Communicate between Hot Cars, Team Leader and Zero Only.
2. Control the whole convoy and prepare hot cars to mark at any junction
3. Ensure Convoy list are updated and study map before departing
4. Responsible to all cars in convoy.
5. Instruction from Control has to be obeyed by all cars in convoy.

Hot Cars
1. Communicate between Hot Car and Control Only.
2. Stop and Mark at junction according to Control’s Instruction
3. Ensure Convoy list are updated and study map before departing
4. Temporary Zero if Convoy Separate and standby instruction from Control.
5. Standby for Instruction from Control to go back to position

Team Leader
1. Communicate between Team Members, Back Marker, Zero and Control Only.
2. Ensure Convoy list are updated and confirm the communication channel.
3. Brief team members about Safety and Etiquette before departing
4. Control the whole team and ensure the safety of convoy members
5. Report to Zero if there is any problem with convoy members and standby for further instruction

Members' cars (Max 10 Cars - will depends on total numbers of cars)
1. Do not pass unless of an emergency.
2. Watch the leader for passing (use indicators)
3. Maintain a safe distance from the car in front
4. Do not let the car in front get out of sight.
5. Flash your lights if in trouble.
6. Switch on your fog light when you're in convoy.
7. Do not switch on your hazard lights unless the convoy is escorted by police.

Back Marker
1. Communicate between Team Members and Team Leader Only.
2. Ensure Convoy list are updated before departing
3. Follow instruction from Team Leader and inform the status to Team Leader
4. Assist Team Leader to control the whole team and ensure the safety of convoy members
5. Report to Team Leader if there is any problem with convoy members and standby for further instruction.

Sweeper
1. Communicate between Zero, Control, Hot Cars and Last Car Only.
2. Stop and attend to problem / accident if any during convoy.
3. Standby instruction from Control and Zero, report status.
4. Ensure Convoy list are updated and study map before departing
5. Temporary Zero when the convoy breaks.

Last Car
1. Communicate between Zero, Control and Sweeper Only.
2. Ensure Convoy list are updated and study map before departing
3. Last car does not stop in convoy.
4. Standby instruction from Control and Zero, report status.
5. Stop at toll to pay for all convoy cars.
6. Ensure emergency equipment is sufficient for convoy
7. Report to Control and Zero on your speed behind for Zero to denote pace

Members who do not owned a Hyundai anymore can still join our convoy. The first line is always a priority to Hyundai Cars, others can follow behind the last car and do not forget to bring your communication set (i.e. FRS, Handy or Rig)
1) General Items
Check your car prior to the convoy, ensure all fluids, tire pressure, etc…  are in tiptop condition. Arrive at the starting point in plenty of time for the briefing on the route and destination of the trip. Please be ready to depart on time with a full fuel tank. If you are going to leave the group before the end of the trip, please tell the Zero, Control and others.  This is so that the group does not either, wait for you to catch up, or follow you.

2) Headlights On
During daytime: On your "small" lights and your fog lights.
During nighttime: On your headlights and your fog lights.

This is how the rest of the world knows what is going on. Your lights on enable you to see your fellow members and know who is with you. If someone pulls off the road in trouble they are easier to identify in the rear view mirror. Best of all it really looks cool.

3) Don't follow too close
When in a convoy keeping good distances is a must for safety as well as an act of kindness to the car you are following. Your cars are special and worth a lot of money so don't risk them. If we are traveling slowly, i.e. less than 40km/h, bumper to bumper is not an issue BUT do not tailgate the car in front at high speed. Your braking reaction plus your braking distance would increase. Keep a safe distance away!

4) Allow other traffic to intermingle
Instinctively, people in a convoy don't want to allow other cars to merge into the line. You must allow other drivers to move in and out of your convoy. Other drivers usually are intimidated or in awe of the spectacle and need to be given extra consideration. Be patient in letting them find their place and pass them if necessary when they settle in a bad spot. You want other drivers to say, "Wow that was neat". Be a friendly convoy.

5) Zero should keep speed reasonable
This is hard. It is all too easy to let the speed creep up. When you have a diverse group of drivers and car capability, there will be people who think it's too slow and others who say you are going too fast. Try to stay with the flow of other traffic. This reduces the need for constant lane changes and passing, making the drive safer for the group. It is each individual driver's responsibility to keep the vehicle behind him or her in sight, insuring the group stays together. If the car behind slows down, please slow down with it. If each car does this convoy will stay together.

6) In case of difficulties or problems
If a car gets in trouble, nobody in the convoy stops EXCEPT for the sweeper, ERV and Last Car. The working cars will ensure everything is all right and the convoy must proceed on until a suitable stopping place is found. A whole line of cars along a busy road translates to a higher chance of accidents waiting to happen.
 
7) Take it easy
Sometimes not everything goes as planned. Participants in a convoy usually have pretty high expectations and are loaded with anticipation of the day's events. It is important to stay focused on the trip at hand and be able to relax when things get hectic, people get lost, or traffic snarls throw you off schedule.

'8) Entering / Exiting Highways
Some of us use Touch N Go, some uses TAG while some other uses cash. Whatever your means of paying is, ALWAYS slow down after your transaction and park behind the Lead Car on the road shoulder with your hazard lights on. Never get out of the car. Wait till all the rest are assembled (the Sweeper will ensure that) and slowly signaled out to the slow lane.

9) Overtaking
Overtake only when legal and safe to do so. DO NOT overtake on double white lines, on bends or at any place where the way ahead is not clear. If a member of the group or public wants to overtake you, please let them.  Don't close up the gap to the car in front of you and force the overtaking car into a dangerous maneuver.


Do's and Dont's

The Do’s
- Do make sure you inform somebody about your traveling plans and how to contact you.
- Do be patient while on the road
- Do keep a safe distance between you and the car in front. Learn your reaction time and think of an exit way to head any mishap happen suddenly
- If you’re in a convoy team, always stay alert to your team leader instruction and in a busy traffic, please make clear the airwaves for team leader to relay messages across team members.
- Do take a good rest before convoy departs. Notify your team leader when you’re sleepy or too tired to drive.
- Stay close to each other in convoy as public cars will try their best to come in the convoy to take advantage of the convoy.

The Dont’s- NO WHITE GLOVE, STROBES AND SIREN!!! Unless you have the permit from PDRM to use it
- Do not follow too close to the car in front if you’re in high speed. At high speed, you need more time to stop.
- Don’t lose your temper. Do not be rude to public cars. Stay calm.
- Do not switch on your hazard light when it rains. Hazard lights are used only when the car is stationary.
- Do not hog the frequency / airwaves.
- If you’re in convoy, do not overtake the car in front of you unless you’re instructed to do so. You may endanger your friend if you make a sudden overtaking and other people behind have to make an emergency brake.
- Do not stop in Emergency / Accident. Just follow your team leader. The ERV, Sweeper and Last Car will stop.

We will be appointing some members to assist in the convoy. We will loan them a walkie talkie... In future we hope members have their own walkie talkie to join the convoy. Its cost saving as compare to making phone call during convoy. Will PM the appointed member and please read thru the convoy guideline.
